Assignment 4

A Series of 3 postcards

Assignment:
Take something not usually shown in visual form, like an emotion or a sound, and present it visually. All ideas need my (Kate Carlyle - the instructor) approval. No cliches allowed - no hearts to show love, etc. You must use all original artwork, created by you! You may use a hand illustration, digital photography, etc.

Objective:
To continue to develop visual metaphor skills, work with a predefined format.

Guidelines:

  • 1 postcard must be black and white
  • 1 postcard must be 2 color
  • 1 postcard must be full color.
  • All postcards should contain the same subject matter, interpreted differently, to evoke different responses.

Example: present a distinctive sound like "buzz" or "hiss"
in such a way that we recognize it immediately, but don't depict it literally.

Visualize a powerful emotion like anxiety, or elation, both clearly and cleverly.

Software: Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
Output Specs: 150 line, w/bleeds, one file - K only, one file - 2 spots, one file - cmyk.
